Wanting Sounds
Wanting Sounds is an artist’s book of text and image featuring a poem written in lipstick prints, a visual language derived from Bob Cobbing’s book ‘The Five Vowels’ (cover shown here, pages displayed on wall in this image).
Pressing mouth to paper, the resulting lipstick marks were used to transcribe every negative view ever expressed to me about my bisexuality, as a visual poem. These expressions of hostility now form a poetic catalogue of verbal-visual traces.
Wanting Sounds uses this approach to transcription to repeat its source materials without amplifying their biphobia, and in a way that transforms their meaning and significance.
