Small Things

Small Things is an edition of 50 miniature books, produced in a variety of colours and contained in ziplock bags.

Each of these pamphlet-stitched books bulges with 75 short statements in small type, written by combining various maxims, adages, aphorisms, anecdotes, proverbs, and comments. The resulting statements are not resolved into coherent propositions, but instead use nonsense and disjuncture as their means of expression.

This artist’s book refers varied assertions of truth to one another in a playful test of their propositions, while motivating unconventional games of cross-referencing by textual recognition. Readings of this small print may be aided and further distorted by the magnifying lens enclosed in each book.

Through these features, Small Things makes a play of size, meaning, and significance in ways that reintroduce triviality to the maxim, itself a ‘small thing’.
